Newborn Baby Parenting Tips

"Here are newborn baby parenting tips that every parent should know."

Bringing your newborn baby home for the first time is one of the most exciting moments of your life - but you likely have a million parenting tips to sort through as well.

Your mother, your in-laws, your friends and family, even complete strangers, will have some form of advice to give you. Sometimes it will make sense; other times, it will sound completely crazy.

So how do you know what baby parenting tips to take to heart, and which to ignore? The easy answer is, whatever feels right for you and your new baby. There are a few things to keep in mind, however:

First things first: before you leave the hospital, send as much as you can home ahead of time. Flowers, gifts, suitcases - nix anything you need for the ride home - and anything else you brought along for your stay should be packed up and sent home with relatives or friends.

If your doctor offers you any instructions or baby parenting tips while at the hospital, though, keep these with you for now, just in case you need to refer to them. The only thing you should worry about on your date of discharge is getting dressed, and getting your newborn baby home.

When you get settled in at home, don’t rush yourself. While the rest of the world may be ready to resume life as normal, you still have a lot of healing and adjustments to make. Go as slowly as you need to, and don’t worry about the dirty dishes in the sink or the piles of laundry that need to get done.

You should be worried about yourself and your new baby. The housework will be handled in due time, when you’re ready.

Enjoy the time you spend with your newborn baby. Limit the amount of visitors you allow, if you need to. Sure, family and friends will want to stop by every five minutes to see the new baby, but you aren’t a spectacle, and you can close the front door anytime you need to.

If people are pressuring you to come over, turn off your cell phone, close the blinds, and ignore them. They’ll get over it eventually.

Try not to put too much weight on the baby parenting tips everyone will be throwing your way. Breastfeeding or bottle, what kind of diapers you’re using, and what you should and shouldn’t be doing with your newborn are all popular topics, but in the end, it’s what works best for you and your new family that matters.

The best decision is the one you make, not what someone else tells you to do. If you don’t feel comfortable telling others to stop with the advice, smile and nod politely; no one ever said you had to actually take the advice.

As far as your mother-in-law’s baby parenting tips go, well, that’s something you’ll just have to get used to; you’ll be hearing it for the next 18 years!
