Child Development Articles

“How Many Child Development Articles Can You Read?”

There are so many articles on child development available in books, magazines and on the internet that there are almost endless opportunities to learn about and be concerned about your child’s development.

A parent’s obsession with their child’s development leads to many long hours of research, concern and also pride and joy.  Every parent wants to know they are doing the right things and that their children are developing normally and even thriving.

Articles on child development focus on the biological and psychological changes that happen to children from the time they are born until the end of adolescence.  Childhood development happens in stages and child development articles often focus on one or two stages of development.

The stages of childhood development often referred to are as follows:  newborn (0-1 month); infant (1 month – 1 year); toddler (1-3 years of age); preschooler (ages 4-6); school aged (6-13 years old); adolescent (13-18 years old).

These articles often discuss the importance of basic needs.  A child’s basic needs, such as good nutrition need to be met to achieve not only physical but emotional health as well.  If a child is well fed, with a nutritious diet, they can grow properly and have emotional stability.

Children who are not properly fed spend a lot of time worrying about their meals, what they are going to eat and whether they are going to be hungry.  This interferes with concentration and affects a child’s development in many areas.

Most child development experts, regardless of the methodology they support or the goals they discuss are concerned with one primary ingredient: parental involvement.   A parent’s involvement with their child promotes language development, social development and physical achievement.

Doing the simple things with your child, like playing with him and reading to him, will have long lasting benefits.  Indeed, this involvement has become a cornerstone of primary education philosophy.  Children need to know their parents are involved and there to support them and care for them.  Interest in your child’s school activities is an important component of child development.

These articles have proliferated and there are a number of great ideas in many of the articles.  Remember, you are the parent and you know what works best for your family so read the child development articles, learn about development and do the right things to help your particular child grow and learn.
