Effects of Single Parenting

“The most common of the effects of single parenting is stress.”

Today the number of single parent is on the rise. Single parents are not only due to divorce, it could also be due to the spouse death and there are also some who have remained single parent by choice.

The most common single parenting effect is that it provides less opportunity for building an emotional bond. Since there is just one person around the child is unable to share and narrate their day to day activities. Besides a child needs to be assured of being loved unconditionally. Priority given to achieving financial independence does not permit a single parent to devote sufficient time with the child.

When there is no elder in the house to fall back upon during important events the child could go into depression. No matter how hectic or busy the schedule one needs to find a way of remaining emotionally connected to the kid.

Even if there is an older sibling in the house to encourage the younger siblings, that child would also need to be supported by the parent emotionally. Children from a broken home tend to suffer higher level of social and behavioral difficulties.

There are positive effects of single parenting as well. A child from single parent homes become more matured and responsible and realizes the importance of earning income at a very young age.

A single parent understands and prioritizes good communication and emotional bonding and often tries to spend quality time with the kids as they realize it worth and understand the effect that it will have over the overall personality of the kid.

Having a grandparent or a relative can remove the stress off the shoulder of a single parent. It could a big disadvantage in case they are not around. The other alternative would be look out for a day-care centre or begin working from home.

A single parents clock runs this way, get yourself and the child ready drop the child to school. Work the whole day, pick the child up in the evening and make dinner, take up the child’s homework. Finish dinner, clear the utensils and read a story to the child at bedtime.

With no time for your own self, loneliness set in, this could be another of the effects of single parenting.
