“It is perfectly normal to have pregnancy questions even if this is not your first pregnancy.”
You just found out your pregnant, you’re beaming with happiness until suddenly you realize that you are in for a ride and you have a lot of questions about pregnancy. Here are answers to some of the most burning questions you might have.
Question #1: How can I prevent Stretch Marks?
While pregnancy is a time of great joy, it also wreaks havoc on your body. As your uterus expands to accommodate your growing baby, your skin stretches right along with it! One of the common pregnancy questions many women ask is how to prevent these stretch marks from occurring.
The best ways to avoid stretch marks and reduce their appearance is to stay hydrated. You should drink at least 8 glasses of water a day; it replenishes your skin and is good for the baby too! Cocoa butter creams and vitamin E are a great way to safeguard the skin and reduce the appearance of stretch marks.
Another great way to watch those stretch marks is to watch your weight gain. While weight gain during pregnancy is necessary, the rate at which you gain is what’s important to preventing stretch marks. A healthy 1 or 2 pound per week gain will enable your body to stretch gradually and suffer less damage as your child grows.
Question #2: Can I Still Have Sex Now That I’m Pregnant?
This is one of those uncomfortable and awkward pregnancy questions but don’t be afraid to talk to your doctor about sex with your partner. Sex with your partner is both natural and wonderful and fine for the baby.
Healthy, happy parents are what’s most important to a child anyway and sex is certainly part of that. As long as you and your partner are comfortable and there are no complications, you can have sex right up until the birth of your child. If you are concerned about sex during your pregnancy, talk to your doctor about your specific worries and follow their advice.
Sometimes if you’ve had bleeding or the doctor is worried about pre-term labor, they might suggest you avoid sexual intercourse but that doesn’t mean you can’t find other ways to express your love for your partner.
Question #3: Is it Safe to Sleep on My Back while I’m Pregnant?
Sleeping can become very uncomfortable, very quickly for pregnant women. As your pregnancy progresses and your belly expands, you will have to find new ways to sleep. For women who sleep on their back, you may need to change this position as your pregnancy progresses.
In general, sleeping on your back is safe during your first trimester but once you reach 20 weeks, lying on your back can cause pressure on your inferior vena cava, the vein that returns blood from your lower body to your heart.
This pressure can cause dizziness, low blood pressure and possibly a reduction of blood flow to your uterus. So lie on your side and support yourself with pillows to keep both you and your baby safe and healthy.
These are just a few answers to some common pregnancy questions. Questions are good and you will be plagued with pregnancy questions as your condition progresses so don’t be afraid to ask and search for the answers you feel comfortable with.
