Preschool Lesson Plans

“Preschool lesson plans are essential to channelize the learning process of a child which starts from the time of birth.”

Though preschool plans are really meant for tiny students aged less than four years, immense efforts go into preparing lesson plans for them, as it is essential that these lessons stimulate and nurture the child’s thirst for learning. This will go a long way in assisting them in the learning process ahead of them.

It is essential that this learning process is introduced to them in a subtle way so that the child does not develop any kind of aversion to the ideas imparted. Preferably the learning process should be initiated by means of fun filled activities which would give the child immense pleasure but at the same time convey a certain message which will not be forgotten in a hurry.

Initially the lesson could start with correction of social behavior. Once the child is taught to overcome his nervousness in being at preschool for the first time he should be allowed to interact with the other children.

At this stage he should be taught to speak with respect, learn to make new friends, be obedient, cope with fears, and help others. Young minds can imbibe anything and hence this is the right time to be taught the right things.

So far, we have examined what a child should be taught in respect of social behavior and etiquette. We can now see what the actual preschool lesson plans are:

Alphabet lesson plans-where the children are taught to identify the alphabets through illustrations or by having dotted fonts so that the child is able to join the dots and identify the alphabet.

Animal theme-where the child is taught to identify animals through various sources like charts, coloring books etc

Art appreciation-child is encouraged to draw and give artistic expression to all his thoughts. Concentration should also be on the child's handwriting. Coloring books could be used so that the child learns to mix colors.

Books –the child should be taught to love books and handle them carefully. He should be allowed to handle picture books on his own.

Identification –this is an important part of preschool lesson plans. A child should learn to identify all the different community helpers like a pilot, astronaut, policeman, teacher nurse, firefighter, baker, farmer, and fisherman.

Health and nutrition-teach a child to identify food grains, fruits and vegetables. He should also learn to differentiate between nutritious food and junk food.

Fables-classic fairytales, folk tales and legends should be narrated to them to help them learn valuable lessons in life.

Safety-a child most importantly should be taught their telephone numbers and addresses for the sake of safety. He should be warned to be careful with strangers. All other aspects of safety should be taught so that the child is prepared in case of emergencies.

These preschool lesson plans will ensure that a child is well prepared to attend school and make him/her a successful and mature adult.
